MOMENTS
KOUROSH SOTOODEH
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My journey began in Iran with a love for art, nature, and capturing human beauty through portraits, despite the restrictions on self-expression. Over time, this passion evolved into a pursuit of minimalism and storytelling, where I seek to balance simplicity with emotional depth.
My work honors the human form, especially the female body, as a timeless piece of art—delicate, sculptural, and imbued with quiet strength.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Kourosh Sotoodeh’s Essence series distills the beauty and power of the female form into a timeless black-and-white narrative. Through light, texture, and composition, this triptych unfolds a journey from introspection to strength, inviting viewers to witness a quiet yet profound transformation. Essence captures the delicate and the resilient, the intimate and the powerful, offering a meditative exploration of beauty, presence, and the timeless spirit of the human form.
In his nude photography Fishnet, Kourosh Sotoodeh transforms the human body into a dynamic interplay of geometry and form. The netting’s intersecting lines trace, obscure, and accentuate the body’s curves, creating a tension between structure and skin, intimacy and abstraction. The fishnet fabric stretches across the figure like a grid, redefining the body as both subject and composition. The spaces between the lines become as significant as the lines themselves, inviting the viewer to question what is revealed and what is concealed. Fishnet is a visual exploration of perception, where texture, light, and shadow collaborate to blur the boundaries between the physical and the conceptual.
“Hands tell stories the voice cannot.” In ManoScape, Kourosh Sotoodeh explores the expressive possibilities of hands—their gestures, textures, and quiet connection to the body. Through a minimalist black-and-white lens, each image emphasizes form, light, and tension, transforming hands into silent narrators. The series invites us to see the body not as a whole but as a canvas for touch and emotion. The hands guide us beyond the visible, suggesting stories of intimacy, concealment, and expression. ManoScape is an exploration of the human formas a poetic language—one that relies not on words but on the gestures we so often overlook.
Quietude is a meditation on stillness, strength, and the quiet resilience of the human form. Through a monochromatic palette and masterful play of light and shadow, the series transforms the figure into both texture and sculpture, inviting a deeper contemplation of presence. By removing distraction, Quietude allows silence to speak. It transforms moments of stillness into a powerful expression of beauty, encouraging the viewer to pause, reflect, and witness the profound simplicity of the human form.
“I’m always captivated by the expressive power of the human body. The ‘Salt Lake’ series captures the raw interplay between nature and the human form. Set against the crisp, white salt and the clear waters, each subject is part of a larger dance of light and texture. The images, minimalist by design, focus on the purity and simplicity of this interaction.” Kourosh Sotoodeh. Salt Lake invites viewers to see beyond the physical, exploring the serene and sometimes stark encounters between humanity and the natural world around us.
"I’ve always been fascinated by the human form as a profound canvas of expression. My ‘Sculpture’ series celebrates the inherent beauty of the body through an artistic lens, emphasizing its elegance and form without any distractions." Kourosh Sotoodeh. These images capture the essence of humanity in its purest form. Each piece invites you to appreciate the body as a masterpiece of natural art, encouraging you to discover the deeper stories and emotions encapsulated within every curve.
“What is concealed often reveals more than what is seen.” The Veil series explores the tension between revelation and concealment, using delicate fabric to trace the graceful contours of the human form. Each photograph highlights the interplay of light and shadow, stripping away distractions to uncover the body’s quiet, expressive beauty. Through minimalist compositions, the veil becomes more than a physical covering—it embodies layers of intimacy, vulnerability, and abstraction.
Whisper explores the quiet dialogue between concealment and revelation, using sheer fabric to trace the contours of the human form. Through the interplay of light, texture, and shadow, the photographs create an intimate atmosphere that invites the viewer to lean in. The fabric both softens and amplifies the body’s natural curves, creating a poetic dance between what is seen and what remains hidden. With Whisper, Kourosh Sotoodeh transforms the human body into a tender, sculptural narrative, celebrating the quiet power of subtlety and the beauty found in fleeting, intimate moments.
WHY I LOVE THIS SERIES, BY AURELIE
I’ve known Kourosh for a few years and always admired his work. It has been interesting to witness his recent move toward more personal fine art series.
I’ve always been a firm believer that it’s important for photographers to work on personal projects throughout their careers. If you’re only shooting for jobs (even editorial ones), you’re never free – there are always expectations and requests you need to worry about. Personal projects allow you to truly express yourself. Which can be daunting for some. It’s the fear of the white page for a writer!
Kourosh’s fine art photography captures the essence of simplicity, often presenting the human body as a delicate, sculptural, and timeless creation. His exhibit invites viewers into a world of stillness and contemplation, where every detail feels intentional and meaningful.
By merging his expertise in fashion and beauty with a fine art sensibility, Kourosh has created a body of work that is both thought-provoking and visually stunning.
